The Three Towers

Description

This sacred temple was built long centuries ago, and is a mystery even to the citizens of Knotwood Forest. The three obelisks are carved out of the mountain itself, and are merely a small portion of the actual tower complex, which extends far, far underground. The two outer towers both feature large open doorways, but the third, central tower has no apparent openings. The third tower has long been rumored to contain unimaginable treasure or an object of great power or any number of other such speculations, but whether it does or does not indeed contain any such treasure is not something that anyone has ever been able to prove or disprove.

In order to reach the inner complex one must survive an extensive subterranean gauntlet, which may only be accessed by one or the other of the two outer towers at any given time.. Which tower leads to the gauntlet, no one can ever be sure, as the elaborate maze that leads down into the gauntlet is constantly rearranging itself. This also makes it impossible to map or memorize the ways of the guantlet.

Written on the stone steps leading up to the towers is a riddle, written in a strange tounge, which also somehow rewrites and rearranges itself. Solved, this riddle will provide a clue as to which tower leads to the right path through the labyrinth and perhaps other information which may be of use.

Even if anyone is able to make their way any distance into the depths of the labyrinth, they will soon find themselves face to face with such dangers as immortal champions, illusions, hypnotism, and pitfalls of unknown destinations. No-one has ever entered and emerged to tell the story. Once the gauntlet is entered the doors seal behind them, and they are commited to their quest until the mystery of The Three Towers is solved, or the seeker is dead.
